Filmmakers and survivors

Panel discussion

A fascinating and inspiring afternoon with film makers and survivors took place on May 7th at the BFJCC for a screening of the six unique and compelling “Video Portraits of Survival.” The film's debut was at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February 2006.

This film is the result of a project to create video portraits of Holocaust survivors and refugees from our own community who are participants in the permanent exhibit "Portraits of Survival: Life Journeys During the Holocaust and Beyond."

These films were created by a class of students from UCSB's Department of Film Studies under the guidance of Professors Kwame Braun and Janet Walker, in collaboration with the Federation's Portraits of Survival Program Director Dr. Elizabeth Wolfson and Jewish Family Service clinician Ruth Steinberg.
